Trial of the Stars

Trial of the Stars is an Open Field Zone in Atlyss.

About

Trial of the Stars consists of a large vertical tower in which the player must ascend while completing an intense, tricky parkour challenge. It can be accessed from the Wall of the Stars after picking up Craig's Up and Over It quest. There are four checkpoints to be unlocked along the way, with four portals at the bottom of the tower allowing the player to teleport to each. Checkpoints are not preserved if the player leaves the area: the trial must be completed in one play session.

Obstacles

The first section introduces the player to basic obstacles: spikes that must be triple jumped (for Bandits) or dashed over, ropes that need to be jumped into to climb them, etc. Notably, there are white stars that send out a pulse of magic energy every five seconds. If the player hits this shockwave, they'll take damage and be knocked back. The star traps produce a sound effect when they're ready to go off, and pulse after one second.

The second section (after the first checkpoint) introduces Wall Spikes, thin walkways riddled with star traps, and Blade Traps that move from one side of a platform to the other in cycles. There is a beam pillar trap at the end of the first and second sections.

The third section (after the second checkpoint) is the shortest, introducing rows of massive spikes that players may find intimidating at first, but can traverse with ease by observing their cycles. The fourth and final section throws everything but rope climbing and beam traps at prospective climbers. The very end of the path features a winding road full of stars and a diagonal stretch of thin walkway plagued by a spinning spike trap that players must jump around to avoid.

Bandits may find they have an easier time crossing some gaps, as the horizontal boost provided by their triple jump negates the need to perform a midair dash in some cases. Occasionally, the triple jump can provide just the right boost to jump cleanly onto one platform from the previous one, where other classes may need to perform a ledge grab to climb up after double jumping. Though their movement options provide Bandits with a little more room for mistakes, it is possible for players of any class to complete the Trial of the Stars.

Reward

For reaching the top of the tower, the player is rewarded with the "Scaling the Stars" achievement and a chest containing an Epic Carrot. This is a crucial item to the optional Single Quest, Up and Over It, given by Craig in the Wall of the Stars. When the Quest is completed by handing the Epic Carrot over to Craig, the player is rewarded with the Agility Ears, a cosmetic item. A blue warp that leads back to the Wall of Stars sits next to the reward chest. The chest containing the Epic Carrot respawns five seconds after being opened.

  • 72025.a4: Added checkpoints and a chest at the top that awards an Epic Carrot. Removed sigil at the top of the tower as the quest "Up and Beyond" has been removed. Craig now offers the quest Up and Over It.
  • 102025.a1: Trial of the Stars is no longer accessible until acquiring or completing Craig's quest "Up and Over It" in the Wall of The Stars. The chest in the Trial of the Stars now provides currency alongside the Epic Carrot.
