Sanctum
As the very first area a player encounters, the Sanctum serves as the starting NPC hub and "last bastion" of uncorrupted life within the world of ATLYSS following the Shattering. This Safe Zone is overseen by the three Guardians, Mystic Guardian Angela for questing, Bandit Guardian Sally, who runs a shop alongside her pet mimic, Stash Spike, and Fighter Guardian Enok.
Players will return here frequently to utilize essential systems like enchanting gear at Vivian’s or to speak with the many citizens who provide lore and insight into the surviving world.

Locations Overview
Spawn Platform
Located in front of World Portal, the Spawn Platform is where the player spawns when they first load into the game. The platform consists of ruined and shattered stone structures, including archways and walkways. At the end of the Platform opposite of the rest of Sanctum (behind the player upon spawn-in), two warp circles can be found. The center warp takes the player to a bridge leading to the Barracks, while the rightmost warp takes the player to Sanctum Lake. The left warp takes you to the Sanctum Courtyard where the Mad Statues is.
World Portal
Located prominently in the center of Sanctum within the confines of Angela's tower, the World Portal is where the player will receive quests from Angela, the Mystic Guardian. Here, they may also fast travel via the portal, and interact with the Mirror of Illusion. Whenever the player uses the recall spell, the player will be placed in front of the World Portal.
Sally's Shop
Located to the left of the World Portal, Sally's Shop is where the player will buy and sell their goods to Sally, the Bandit Guardian. Sally's shop also houses Spike, Sally's pet mimic who functions as storage.
Checking behind Sally's Shop lies Skrit, one of Sally's colleagues. He allows the player to gamble for various items.
Enchanting Hut
Located past Sally's Shop, the Enchanting Hut is where the player can meet Vivian, an apprentice of Angela who can enchant the player's gear.
Gateway
Located to the right of the World Portal, the Gateway is where the player can exit Sanctum and explore the Outer Sanctum, and by extension the rest of the world.
Ruka's Furnace
Located behind the World Portal and near the Barracks, Ruka's Furnace is where players can go to trade ore for items. The Ore Artisan, Ruka, is responsible for the shop there.
Barracks
Located behind the World Portal, the Barracks is where the player can meet Enok, the Fighter Guardian. A portal to the pvp arena Sanctum Arena can also be found while in multiplayer.
Sanctum Lake
Sanctum Lake can be entered via the Spawn Platform's rightmost warp, however geographically located behind Sally's shop, Sanctum Lake is a section of Sanctum that is encased by rocky terrain. The lake is home to several citizens and a merchant named Torta, who sells the Fishing Rod and other fishing related items under the Consumables tab. There are two fishing spots at Sanctum Lake. It is currently the only location with swimmable water. Sanctum Lake is home to a level 1 fishing spot.
Lore
Sanctum is the last bastion for the people of ATLYSS after the Shattering, and hosts the largest amount of NPCs because of that. The only reason Sanctum can stay purified against the corruption is because of Angela's presence. She states that if she were to leave Sanctum, her protection would be lost.
The Spawn Platform has a stone tablet that reads: For when a determined soul dies in this world, they will be brought back here to be given another chance.
The citizens of Sanctum seem to serve several purposes depending of their garb, as it represents the guardian they follow.
- Citizens dressed in red follow Enok, and fill the role of guards.
- They are the only type so far seen wielding weapons, that being a spear.
- Those that bear arms guard the Barracks.
- Two are keeping track of the food stores at Sanctum Lake.
- Sally is specifically mentioned to provide food, with carrot cake being a favorite.
- Citizens dressed in blue follow Angela, and are presumed to be scholars following Angela's teachings.
- Many inhabit Angela's Tower.
- Those inhabiting the tower are attempting to learn spells, with one stating that they can cast Fluxbolt, although ineffectively.
- Other blue citizens found outside of Angela's tower appear to be lost in thought.
- There is a unique blue citizen sitting outside of Angela's tower who witnessed the Shattering.
- Their appearance is unique, having longer, floppy ears compared to other citizens.
- They state that they used to live in the Effold Terrace, which is now inhabited by Slimeks and the Slime Diva.
- They mention the Sky Whale, and wonder if it still watches over them.
- Many inhabit Angela's Tower.
- Citizens dressed in green follow Sally.
- They are rather uncommon, with only two inhabiting Sanctum.
Trivia
- There are three secret chests that can be found in Sanctum
- One is found at the top of the World Portal.
- One is found behind the Barracks.
- One is found in a hidden crevice outside of Sanctum Lake's walls.
- Sanctum Lake can be entered without the warp if the player is determined enough.
- Sanctum Lake is currently the only place where the player can swim.
- At Sanctum Lake, a citizen states that the player can breath underwater due to Angela's blessing.
- Scaling Angela's tower grants the Scaling the Tower achievement. A chest that can drop the Bunhost Leggings or Bunhost Garb item is also located atop the tower.
- There are two more chests in Sanctum containing Bunhost cosmetics, and both are accessible by jumping down to a location from atop Angela's library. The first is located on a cliff behind the barracks, and another can be found beside a Chang at a campfire hidden on the island Sanctum Lake is located on. Sanctum Lake's island is located behind Sally's shop. All of these chests have a random chance to drop Bunhost Leggings, Bunhost Garb, or a Tome of Lesser Experience.
- These chests appear to drop seasonal items during the months of October and December: the Spooky Hat and Garment during October, and the Festive Coat, Hat, and Trousers in December.
- Outer Sanctum Gate used to be accessible from this location via portal, but was removed from the game.
- Sanctum was called "Nollheim" in Alpha 0.1.6c. Sanctum Lake was called "Nollheim Lake".
- Angela's Tower used to hold many entries of the Universal Lexicon.
