A player fishing
Fish on the hook

Fishing is a profession that allows the player to fish up various critters and treasures at dedicated fishing spots by using a fishing rod. A dedicated fishing NPC can be found in the Sanctum's lake accessible through a white teleportation circle near the world spawn.

To fish, a player must slot a fishing rod (currently categorized as a consumable) in one of their item hotkeys, and use it near a valid fishing spot. When a fish is on the line, splashing sounds will occur and particle effects will roil in the water as an Exclamation Icon.png icon appears above the player's head. Reeling in the fish with the appropriate key (the default on keyboard is F) will complete the minigame.

Sally and Torta both sell fishing rods: Torta sells them at a discount.

Leveling

All players have level 1 fishing by default. Specific amounts of XP are required to level up: the current fishing level cap is 10. The experience provided by fished up items lowers as the player's level rises: for example, a Windtail Fish from Sanctum Lake gives level 2 players 6 fishing experience, but level 3 players who fish up the same thing from the same location receive only 4 fishing experience. Those seeking to maximize experience gain will want to try to farm nodes as close to their fishing level as possible.
