Angela

Angela Flux, simply known as Angela, is an important NPC in ATLYSS. She can be found pacing around the World Portal in Sanctum and provides the player with some of the most important Quests in the game. She is also one of the three class guardians, specifically of the Mystic class.
Description
Angela is a large, draconic creature with long ears, white fur, fangs, crystalline blue horns, sharp claws, and a large tail. Blue tufts of longer fur wreath her neck and adorn the tip of her tail. She wears a yellow robe with blue accents, a pair of red glasses and stockings with high heels. Bells adorn her ears and neck, jingling as she walks. She speaks to the player with a concerned, caring tone. As she paces around the World Portal, she may stop and perform an idle action, such as picking up a book, or twirling with arcane energy.
Angela acts as the main quest giver in ATLYSS, providing breadcrumb quests to lead the player to the next area. She also enables the player to opt-in to the Mystic Class upon reaching level 10.
Quests
Angela provides a selection of quests that are necessary for the player's progression through the game. Some of the quests that she provides also may be optional or repeatable. As the Mystic Guardian, Angela gives the Mystic class tome and weapon mastery scrolls that involve magic combat.

Dialogue
When you speak with her for the first time, she greets you as follows. Her initial greeting pulls from one of three phrases ("Goodness!", "Oh my!", and "Ah!"), but the rest of the conversation is determined.
I am Angela Flux, Mystic Guardian of Sanctum.
I understand that you may have a few questions to ask...
But first, let's get your bearings sorted out, yes?
You can ask Angela several questions relating to the plot of ATLYSS and her role in Sanctum.
The Calling?
You are not from this world, little one. You were once a living being somewhere far from here.
Anything could have happened, that I'm unsure of...
I called your soul, amongst many others, to live once more, and to protect this world from darkness.
I will always be sure that your soul stays purified and protected from what roams outside of Sanctum.
- Why choose me?
- This is another chance for you to live, isn't it?
I understand that you find this concerning...
However, purgatory after death certainly isn't a loop worth suffering. Your soul rests more in this world.
That I'm very sure of, little one...
- This is another chance for you to live, isn't it?
- I see, anyways...
- <Ends the conversation>
Who are you?
I am one of the three guardians who have accompanied this land from the very beginning.
I was once able to see all, but my magic has been stifled by... unfortunate circumstances.
All I can muster now is to keep the broken world intertwined, and to shield Sanctum from darkness.
Without my magic, your soul would be imprisoned, and lost forever... stuck wherever you may be.
- That's... concerning.
- You're in good hands, little one...
Have faith, there are many souls alongside yours that can keep this land pure.
Stay determined, and keep your head held high... I believe in you.
- You're in good hands, little one...
- I see, anyways...
- <Ends the conversation>
Where are we?
No creature of evil can ever enter as long as I'm here. As fate has it, I must be here to keep Sanctum safe.
What are Mystics?
Ahem...
Forgive me, it's not often I'm asked of this.
Choosing to be a Mystic unlocks the potential of the mind, allowing the ability to cast powerful spells.
They can barrier themselves from damage, throw explosive bolts, and pierce close threats...
To summarize quickly, the arcane magics Mystics use are of my own power...
Quite a bit to take in, wouldn't you say?
Previous Iterations
Angela has been a part of ATLYSS' development almost since its inception. Her first in-game appearance was in the August 30, 2020 build of PoonQuest's second iteration. Angela resided in a cave off to the right of the player's starting location, alongside a brown Kubold-like NPC named Piko. She reappeared with a new look in the a12 demo, where she stood on top of the fast travel building. She was too high up to speak with. Angela was the size of a player character with Poon-like features, including black fur, blue hair, green eyes, and floppy ears. Her spiral horns, halo, and tiny white wings especially set her apart from the Poons, which were the only playable race at the time. At this time, Angela wore a short orange dress with blue accents. The orange and blue color palette of her clothing has remained a staple of her design ever since. Vivian, Angela's apprentice in the present day, inherited many of Angela's original design elements, including her hair color and style, her horns, green eyes, and fur color.
In this version of the game's story, Angela was a being known as an angel, and she directly opposed the Poons' creator, a dark goddess named Suki. In an effort to stop her, Angela freed the last Poon from its stone prison to serve as a hero.[1][2]
Angela returned in iteration 3 of ATLYSS, an action RPG and dungeon crawler. In the version 802 demo, she dwelled in her library, where she served as a shopkeeper. Here, her appearance changed to be more draconic, somewhat resembling the playable Yeppi race (Kubold predecessors). She had a large, full frame with a thick, spiky, star-tipped tail and floppy ears. Her scales were still black, she retained the curled horns, and she had tufts of blue fur on her wrists. Her eyes were now blue instead of green. Angela seemed to possess considerable power in this iteration, offering blessings to the player character for their journey. She was regarded as the goddess of the Yeppis in this iteration.
There were two races to choose from in iteration 3 of ATLYSS: the Puun (Poons by another name) and Yeppi, though Byrdles and Changs were planned to be implemented. Byrdles were playable in the August 10 build, but not the November 10 build. Puuns were reintroduced as demonic beings:[3] while playing as a Puun, Angela would regard the player with pity.[4] The Yeppis, on the other hand, were quite the opposite: described as a lawful people who value wisdom and prefer thoughtful solutions to violence,[5] Angela responded favorably to them.[6] Byrdles were undescribed in character creation, but Angela had some interesting insight into the nature of this version of the world for them in her greeting, referring to the player's surroundings as a "Titan's dream".[7] Angela could also be attacked with weapons from specific angles in the 802 build, provoking a reaction.
Angela's first appearance in anything resembling her modern form was in iteration 4's alpha 0.0.6a tech demo. She was considerably shorter than her last appearance, barely taller than a player, and was designed to look like a stout, peppy secretary. Her new appearance took cues from her debut in iteration 2, with floppy bunny ears, a fluffy cotton tail, and a little black nose. She now had blue crystalline horns in place of her curly ram horns, her eyes were black, and she wore a pair of bells on her ears. Her thin, round black glasses and winning smile shone brightly, flanked by swirly blue cheeks. Concept art depicted her with a halo, but that was absent in her model.
Future concept art returned to the draconic look, and the bunny secretary model was eventually replaced with a 2D placeholder. Angela's current model was implemented in alpha 0.2.4d.

Trivia
- One of Angela's idle actions includes picking up a book, reading it, and then putting it back. During this, she can be attacked with most weapons, resulting in an easter egg. Angela will hit the player in retaliation, although this deals no damage. Doing this will reward the player with the Rude! achievement.
- In Angela's library, it was possible to find a Lexicon entry which directly addresses the world's calamity, the Shattering. This entry heavily implies that it was Angela herself that 'reconnected' the world.
- Angela, Enok, and the Carbuncles are of the same race. They are known as Oathkin, a race with Poon and Kubold attributes.
- Angela resembles a Kubold, with similar features and physical traits, including the mystic circle that floats behind her head.
- Kubolds are also associated with magic, as written in the race's description.
- Angela had a sister named Lilith earlier in ATLYSS' development. In a Patreon post from January 6, 2023, Kiseff threw around the idea of Angela attuning the World Portal to PvE zones, while Lilith would have attuned it to PvP zones. Lilith has since been scrapped.
- An officially licensed plushie based on Angela exists.
